our last honors blog :(

How has your thinking changed regarding literature?

My think has changed a lot I learned new meanings. I didn't know there was a such thing as literary terms nor did I know that there were so many. There are so many parts to a book you can just pick out, I mean we all know the basic: setting, character, plot...... But allegory, allusion, Anthropomorphism I don't even know how to pronounce that. But the most important things is that now I know so if someone were to ask me what is analogy in terms of a book I can say "analogy is when you compare to things that relate to each other like the grave is to eternity as death is to sleep, lol kinda sorta got it still need a little work on it though.

I'm going to miss writing blogs.

magazine article pt15 last one i hope:)

What did you learn?

I learned that drafting and revision is a very useful tool to use. Each school year I hear my teachers say always do multiple drafts, always let a numerous amount of people critique your writing to get different perspectives. Now that we are actually letting other people outside our school read it and publish our writing I see how important drafting and revision is important. As we got a chance to get our writing back from publishers to see our mistakes we saw that we still had some touching up to and if wasn't for drafting and revision it would have been out there for all the world to see. I also learned in the job field it is not easy to please everybody even if your thinking your doing a good job your in for big surprise initiative is a new word I had to learn during this whole project.

How did you learn it?

I learned this by looking through my classmates writing pieces and even my own paper. I had to go through numerous drafts before I got to where I am right now. I learned I had to get different perspectives to see where I was in my writing. By learning how to ask other people to look at my writing I was taking the initiative of ask people to look at my writing and to give me advice as to where I should go from there.

Why is this important?
I think drafting and revision and taking initiative is very important especially in the world of writing and publishing and in the job field. You would want your published magazine field with noticeable mistakes that could have been eliminated if you just would had people looking at it

magzine reflection pt2

1. Overall, when you think about the big picture of your writing, what improved? How did it get better? Why?
I defiantly think there is a big difference from my first draft to my final pdf file. I really didn't have an intro it just went right into my topic which didn't help my readers get a feel of what my readers are getting into. I think because i had plenty of people read over it and give me feedback on it, that it help out a lot. My body piece didn't need much work since it was mainly opinion and things that happened to me so there was not a big difference to that except that added a conclusion to wrap up my thought.

2. Overall, when you think about the big picture of your writing, what still needs work? What do you think will help you improve? Why?
Overall I think I still need to work on the structure of the writing. I think my sentences could flow better so people can understand what I am talking about. I can improve this by letting the people looking at my paper know that I need help structuring paper, then they would be more focused on helping me with my structure.

3. Specifically, show us something that improved and describe the path it took to get better. You can quote your article, your drafts, link to evidence, etc.
old intro
Somethings you can learn from my mistakes and successes. Upcoming juniors the first thing you should learn from me is.
new intro
"During internship I made some mistakes, and through my experiences I learned a lot and can help you have a better internship experience than I did. I learned some things the hard way.
I am a very laid back person I did what I was told, no questions asked, and that was the main reason I was miserable at my internship. I did not speak up and tell my mentor what I would like to do and because of that I was given the simple job of inputting information into a database instead of the more interesting job of giving tours which I wanted to do, but never got the chance . So this does not happen to you"

My original intro was just a few sentence but with help from my classmates and other people who looked at my paper, it turned into a whole paragraph about what the audience would be reading. this This was a good thing to add because I agreed that I needed to add an longer intro so people can better understand my writing.

4. Describe something specific (or a few things!) that you learned about writing.
I learned that less is more- more info and writing doesn't necessarily mean your paper is better than the person who wrote less it just means you put more unnecessary things in your paper.

always have an exciting intro and ending- don't start your article with a exciting intro and leave your audience hanging with a boring ending keep your audience happy that they read paper. You should always have a interesting intro cause with out one the audience would not even finish reading it.
Use action verbs when writing your sub-headline and headline- Also if you don't have an interesting headline they wont pick it up either you have to pull your audience with a heading that will seem interesting read.

magazine reflectoin

1. What went well for you during the process of creating this magazine?

Picking a topic to talk about was easy I knew what I wanted to talk about. So this part of the magazine was easy I spoke from my experiences and things I knew. Since I started on time this time instead of procrastinating I started on time which I think was a good thing because my end product was something I would be proud to show off.

2. What challenges did you face as you moved from an early draft or idea to a final product?

Problems I faced was making my editorial fun to read but still on topic of what I was talking about. I have read many of editorial some interesting and not interesting. I wanted my article to be in the category that was interesting. I struggled with that at first, but the more critiques I got the better my paper became.

3. What other examples of work—student and professional—stood out as exemplary and served as a good model for your own work?

The idea of writing an advice article came from watching shows and actually reading one. I would always see in high schools who write there own newspapers that there would always be an advice column in it, and that is what people would rush to read. That is what I wanted out of my article I wanted it to help the audience by telling my expeiriences.

Determination and Success: Tips that could help you become a success junior

During internship I made some mistakes, and through my experiences I learned a lot and can help you have a better internship experience than I did.
So this does not happen to you

I am going to give you tips for a successful interrnship

How To Pick Your Own Internship

1. Start right away, as soon as you find out when your internship starts, start looking for one. Whatever you do don't procrastinate, because before you know it, it will be time to start and you might end up with an internship you don't enjoy.

2. Select your internships wisely. Just because you find out your friends have the same internship as you doesn't necessarily mean this going to be a good experience for you. Sometimes friends can hinder you from doing a good job at your internship. If you are interning with your friends keep your talking to a minimum. Remember there is a time and place to have fun. If you are just picking your internship just because your friends have it then you shouldn't pick it, because you will learn slowly that it wasn't the best choice after all.

3. Sometimes it's not what you know-it's who you know. As you grow up as an adult or try to apply for college you will hear this quote about a lot. This quote is not always true but in this case it is 100 percent true. If it wasn't for the people I knew I probably would have not found an internship quickly enough. When I was let go from my internship I had to find another internship in a certain amount of time, I soon as I found this out I started looking for one and calling people, and by the next day I had found my new internship.

The First Day Of Internship:

Your first day of internship is almost never what you expect, but most of the time you will at first like it.

1. First impressions matter. This can go both ways either for you or your mentor. On your first day of internship, whether you're working at school with kids or even at a construction site you must dress to impress. This does not mean you have to go buy a whole new outfit, it just means you should dress how you would as you were going to get interviewed for the job. So girls, I suggest you wear either a skirt that comes close to your knees or you can wear really nice pants, preferably not jeans and a really nice blouse and Not Tight Clothes, because this is Not Professional. As for boys just wear slacks and a nice buttoned down shirt and you will be fine no need to worry much. Remember this is only for your first day, so don't-trip you will have your turn to show off those new Jordan's you just bought. It is just really important to make a good impression on your first day of internship.

2. Speak up, and tell them what you would like to bring to their business, because if you don't they will give you something that requires little effort. I learned this the hard way. Again there is a time and place to talk and it being your first day of internship it is definitely the time to do so. If you tell them the things that you can do and will be willing to learn they will give you a good job, but if you just take the job and not tell them that you can do more, then they won't give you more to do.

3. Sometimes it is not good enough to do what you are told. When I was told this quote I was confused and didn't understand. I mean how can you do everything your told and that still not be enough? What this quote basically means is that you're really never done with a job. You should always go over and beyond. Take initiative and do something extra, this will tell your mentor that you're up for anything and can help you with tip number two, because in order to speak up and tell your mentor you want to do something else you have to show your mentor that you are capable of doing the job.

If I would have known then what I know now, I would have done a better job at my internship. I have learned a lot and this has helped me at my new internship. I was more comfortable with my mentor, and I was able to speak up and tell her the different things I wanted to bring to her business. I am glad had struggles, I think the great Frederick Douglas said it the best “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.

obama,clinton,and the socialist

Obama is not the first to be accused of having socialist ideas in a article called Clinton's socialist manifesto there is plenty of proof say he was. This is a tough topic because I don't get socialism and I don't understand it enough to talk about, but I do know some of obama's ideas of how to better our economy. Obama and Clinton both had similar ideas on how to better the economy. They both tried to give better heath care and they both tried to fix the unemployment rate. I think Clinton tried to do this but since he was impeached he never got a chance to fix it. I think if we just give Obama a chance to prove himself and to scrutinizing him over every little thing he might can fix this financial crises. Remember before Obama was in office our economy was already jacked up due to previous presidents, so Obama is really struggling, and I think no matter who would had been in office our economy would still be bad,and I think we should give him a chance. Also I would like to now why is it that every since Obama has been presient people have been complaining more and lashing out at him i hear about Obama not doing a good job then when Bush was the president and Obama's Not even the one who messed up our economy in the first place he just trying the best way he can to better it.

beloved:honors blog

This is a picture of Oprah Winfrey in th movie beloved she plays the role of Sethe in the book Beloved written by Toni Morrison. Sethe is the main character of this story, they describe her as a strong and devoted woman. She is dedicated to make sure that her kids didnt go through the same tragic events that happened to her in her life as a slave. So she killed her first born daughter who might be the ghost who has been haunting the house for the last 18 years. She tries to runaway a way from her past but ends up running end to it no matter where she is.

Another important character in this book is Denver. In the movie she is played by Kimberly Elise. I think Denver also plays an important role in the book. She is youngest of Sethe's children and the most sensitive of them. She plays a powerful role in the book. They describe her as being intelligent, thoughtful , and emotional. I Think as a character she progresses to being a independent women like her mother.

What physical presence does the character have? Include height, weight, size, physical fitness, posture, etc.

2. Describe the characters further visual details. Include hair, eyes, face, teeth, scars, tattoos, etc.

3. What distinguishing items does the character wear? Include clothes, jewelery, shoes, and any other physical item the character keeps with him/her.

4. What distinguishing behavior does the character have? Include habits, preferences (music, food, literature, etc.), speech (sayings, stalling words, etc), and demeanor.

5. What is the characters role in society? Include his/her job, hobbies, and uses of time.

6. What is the character's religion or philosophy? What beliefs does he/she hold? How does this create or mitigate internal conflict within his/her psyche?

7. What do others in the book say about the character?

8. What connections does this character have to history, established religion or the world beyond the book?

9. What does the character's name suggest? Authors rarely (if ever) name characters at random. What could the name symbolize? What evidence do you have for this?

10. How does the character develop during the plot? How does he/she change?

photo essay

The Eco-center is a place where kids from the ages of 4th-8th graders learn about how to be Eco-friendly, and drive hybrid when they are old enough to drive. There are several different exhibits that able them to learn in an exciting and fun way. When the kids first arrive at the Eco-center they sit down in the seats, which are actually car seat and watch an introduction about when cars first invented and things that could happen if we don’t start using alternative fuels. They are then given a worksheet where they are supposed to write down the questions from the video. There are also plenty of activities for the kids to be engaged in whether they are watching an educational video about hybrid cars or they are going through a maze building a car, the Eco-center is a great place from our next generation can set a better example of our world.

The first exhibit here is hybrid video, two boys are doing a quick exercise that teaches them why it is better to use a hybrid car then a gasoline car. How they learn they learn the difference between a hybrid car and gasoline car is. A hybrid car works by using both gasoline and electricity and is better than using a regular gasoline car because it only pollutes half the time. They are both given twelve dollars to spend on gas, The hybrid car is able to go 40 miles per hour without stopping and a gasoline car is able to go 20 miles per hour without stopping once they learned that they would stand by the magnetic board and move their cars one at a time. By the time they got to their destination which was the Eco-Center, the gasoline car ran out of money and did not have any money to buy their friends who were in the car drinks or even get back home, but the hybrid car was able to at least get him and his friends back home.

The next exhibit at the Eco-center is learning how a hybrid vehicle works. Joanna, one of the tour guides at the Eco-Center, is showing them a model of a hybrid car. The hybrid car uses both gasoline and electricity, but as a demonstration they have a mini gas station that instead of gas, hydrogen is pumped into it, and for electricity they use batteries. Once those two are pumped into the car it is able to work and is placed on the runway for the kids to see it. Once she is done showing them the car she shows them other things that are hybrid like the shuttles we use to launch into space and some laptops that could run on hybrid energy. To teach them how expensive a hybrid car is, she showed them a picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger who converted his Hummer into a hybrid car, they then are asked who do they know drives a hybrid Hummer and they all say no, cause who has over a half million dollars to spend.

Joanna a tour Guide at the Eco Center is now teaching the kids about where we get our oil supply. They are taught who uses the most cars and if the amounts of cars they have match how many people they have. They learned that the U.S uses the most cars and that we should be more like Brazil and use public transportation. Joanna then teaches them some alternative things we could use to conserve energy, like solar panels, and windmills. They are asked the question where can we use solar panels and wind mills? The kids all have different answers but the correct answer is anything above the equator you can use solar panels, below the equator you wouldn't be able to use solar panels because there is no sun. Instead of solar panels what can they use instead? Wind mills! Yes kids that is correct, Joanna says.

This class kids are sitting down watching informational video about the inside of a hybrid car. There are three guys in the video two of them are represented as hydrogen and the other is oxygen and they are in a tennis court the hydrogen's and oxygen's are on opposite sides of each other. The hydrogen's have balloons on their bottoms and are told to try to go under the net. When they reach the other side of the court the balloons have fallen off. The reason why is because instead of going under the net the go around the net to reach the hydrogen's, which makes electricity for the hybrid car. Without the water and electricity it is enable to work properly because you need gas and electricity to run a hybrid car.

The exhibit I Know more about would be the hands on activity room, in hear the kids are aloud to go to different stations and learn about how the different alterative devices work. They learn how solar panels and wind turbines work. One thing that I think is cool would be the solar drawbridge. It is made out of logos and is powered by light. This is also one of the exhibits that kids enjoy also; they are amazed that the device is able to move like that. This is also the last stop for most kids once they are done with this room they head back to the auditorium, and hand the clipboards in. They head out to the bus and me and the other employees wave goodbye.

immerision week

Even though I hate my internship I really think depending on what your internship is it could really impact your education. It could teach you things that you could really use. It teaches you things like responsibility. It taught me to be at a place at te time being asked, I had to get up early every morning to catch the trolley and bus just to get to my internship. It also teaches you that you might not be there for job you actually think your going to do cause for me even though internship is a good learning expeirience that everyone should do, mine was a waste of time because the only thing I did was clean and input things into a computer which i dont think can help me out because of how simple it was. I think a trained monkey would be able to do that and I felt I was getting treated like someone who could take on a challenge and I think the whole internship experience is supposed to be challenge and not something anyone could do.

my internship concerns

1)I am excited about getting to have a better and longer learning expeirience about my internship. I feel i will get a good feel of how a real job feels and hopefully I be able to know the do's and dont's of the work field.
2)I am concerned that I would run out of things to do and be bored there. I am also concerned that I will get tired of going and start to hate it. I am concerned that I will not be able to do the work being asked.

honors blog:the sun also rises

Jake Barnes and Lady Brett

Lady Brett was one of the main Characters in the book the sun also rises. This book takes place in Paris so I imagine that Lady Brett has either blond or red hair that she would where pinned up with a fancy hat she was probably 5-6 150 pounds with a lady like posture. Throughout the story she was described as a heavy drinker. I would think she would be always wearing some fancy dress and jewelry because in the time period they were in and were the story took place.I also think her attitude is kind of stuck up because throughout the story she seems to think better of herself to people. She and Jake have a little thing for each other but since he was impaired in World War 1 he is not able to have sex which is the reason why she can not express her feeling for him. She is also going through a divorce and being an independent women she goes from man to man, when she hangs out with Jake and his friends at different clubs she acts wild to get men's attention. I think the author named her Lady Brett because it sounds like royality it makes her feel higher up and I dont think the name really suits her because of the way she acts in the story. throughout the story I dont think Brett changed much she was still wondering to different men still unsure of what she wanted.

Jake Barnes

Jake was also an important character in the book I think he was a pretty average height for a man probably around 170 pounds he probably would dress in suits with his hair slicked back he is also the protagonist in the story. I think Jake is one of the few people who actually changed in the book. He fought in WWI and was injured in the groins and was not able to have sex which made complications with him and bretts relationship to grow. As the story countines to go I think he comes to a self realization that its ok that he can still love without being sexual. His current job is a jounalist in Paris.

Robert Cohn

Robert is also a writer but he is wealthy so imagine him to be a little shorter than Jake and probably in much finer clothing than Jake. He is an important part of the story but not as important than Jake and Brett. He is Jewish and often the butt of his friends jokes. He never really fit in because he was Jewish and while in school he took up boxing to get over his self confidence. Since he is Jewish he probably has thick curly hair. To get over some things he decides to take a trip to spain and wants his friends to tag along.

revising still

During the progressive era a lot of new laws were passed such as the Child labor Law, the 19th admendment, and the abolishment of slavery.

How progressive was the Progressive Era in American history?
Things to consider (choose some, not all!):
* Constitutional Amendments?
* Workers & Working Conditions?
* Imperialism?
* Civil Liberties?
* Conservation?
* Democracy?
* Freedom?
Make sure that you take a stand and establish a judgement, comparison in relation to a specific standard.

Good job people

One blog that stood out to me as good was Amanda Alipio one of her blogs that was good was the economic advice to Obama. One of her advices to Obama was to
"instead of providing money to these big companies for their bailout that we should invest it in progressing with new alternative energy sources. In an article I found by Frank Rich it states the following about bail outs for banks"....
I think this was good advice for him to think about because we do need to focus more on our earth. Since Global Warming is happening we should focus more on helping the environment.

Another blog that was good blog that I saw was Stephanie Santiago, her honors literary devices was good example. One of her literary devices was foreshadowing.
Another literary term that I found was foreshadowing. Fitzgerald uses foreshadowing in the book for when Tom finds out about Gatsby and Daisy’s affair together. The day that he found out was described as “The next day was broiling, almost the last, certainly the warmest, of the summer”(page114). I thought that it was interesting because this was the day that Tom confronted Gatsby about his affair with Daisy and they got into a heated debate.
The reason why this stood out to me was because I really didn't understand what it meant and by reading it I now do.

Ariannah's blog about the election of 1896 was a good blog. She had a lot of important dates, she talked about the election deeply and quick to the point, it was not to long.

What blogs are out there with outstanding examples of:

1. Economic advice to Barack Obama?
2. Literary Analysis?
3. Historical Writing?
4. Anything else that makes blogs great?

Quote examples for each and explain why you picked them! Show us and tell us what makes them great!

my honors blog:the color of water

When I started to read this book in 8th grade grade I didn't finish it. I thought it was to long and I really didn't understand. You should never put a book down without finishing it, so I decided to finish it. Now since I am in a older grade I was able to comprehend and enjoy the story. The Color of Water is a memorable story of a the life of James McBride a half white half black boy trying to find out his roots. His mother is a white Jew who fell in love with a black man which her family disowned her from straying away from her Jewish faith. As he talks about himself and his brothers and sisters life, he also talks about his mother and her past.

Some literary devices in this book would be the fact that the story goes back and forth to past and present. In this story the author tells the story of his mothers past and also of his life. He goes back and forth in the stories, although it does get confusing you are able to tell when he is about to talk about his mother because its in italicized so its easy to see transition with his story. I like the fact that he did that because it actually made me want read more of her story seeing that she went through all that so I think that is very useful literary device to use.

Another important literary device in this book would be symbol. Out all of the symbols the one that I saw in the story was "Black Power" or race. This book is mostly about race and self acceptance. As I began to get deeper in the book I saw that in both Ruth's, James mother and his own, they both had trouble with race. Getting to Black Power, when James was young Black power was everywhere especially since the death of Malcolm X. People where putting them on the hood of their cars as I read on page 26. Since Ruth was a white woman living in a time when Blacks and Whites didn't get along it was hard for her and her 12 children. Another incident which happened was a time where he and his mother was on a trolley with food that his sister cooked, when two black men took her purse with the food left on the ground. That shows her strength and her resilience. Although James was always afriad of the black Panthers this triggered something which made him fear them for his mothers life. One more incident that happened was when James went off to a camp as he was looking through the window he saw a boy and his farther doing a handshake he thought was cool, when the boy was asked where he learned the hand shake from he said his taught him it. Fearing that his mother was in trouble since the boys farther was next to her try to warn her, even though she was in no danger he still takes things in his on hands and punches the little boy in the face. I definatley think Black Power is important symbol in this book.

The last literary device that I saw in the book was characterization/character. In this book there were alot of characters some characters that I thought that was important, that without them they wouldn't be a story would be James Mcbride, Ruth Mcbride, (tateh) Fishel Shilsky, and Peter. They were the ones that stuck out to me as important to me. I think Tateh and Peter are important characters in the story because In Ruth's life Tateh her farther sexually abused her when she was younger which led away from her family. Peter would be an important character in the story because it was ruth's first boyfriend and farther to her first child which she ended up not having, this caused much controversey because he was also black.

obama's economic advisor/internship

I was given the opportunity to talk to president Obama about our current state of economy. We are at a devastating time, like the current crisis we are having with people are losing their homes because the current rate unemployment went up . In 1929-1939 we went through a time period in which we addressed as the Great Depression, if we do not want to go back to that we should use some alternative methods. Once I stepped foot into the White House I explored the area, I shook hands with his wife Michelle, and his two daughters Sasha, and Malia. The Secret Service escorted me to Obama's office for a one on one sessions, he gave me his autograph and then I started addressing the issue's that we are in. The national unemployment rate jumped from 4.7 percent to 5 percent in December, and according to government statistics, the number of jobs in the U.S.

During the Great depression, By spring of 1933, when FDR took the oath of office, unemployment had risen from 8 to 15 million (roughly 1/3 of the non-farmer workforce) and the gross national product had decreased from $103.8 billion to $55.7 billion.

I think if we do not want to repeat history we should focus on trying to help people find jobs so they could get their homes back. That means we should make more jobs available for people to get.
I think another good plan that Obama has is the stimulus plan, this plan makes it easier to secure or refinance mortgages for more expensive homes. This will also allow Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a year to buy loans of up to $729,750 which the limit now is $417,000, this would it easier for borrowers to qualify.1

I think this is a good idea because it gives people a chance to get out of the current troubles they are in. As the timer went off I thanked him for taking the time to listen and shook his hand.

what makes a good article

1. Preview: In the beginning of the Arnold interview they give a little preview of what's in the interview and I think that this is good because it lets the reader preview what their reading and if they want to continue reading it. We could include this in the final product by putting it in the beginning before the actual interview.Story Highlights• Schwarzenegger says he'll campaign in Ohio for Sen. John McCain• He says Gov. Sarah Palin will be ready to lead when she takes oath• He says he's willing to work with a President Obama or President McCain

2. Looking towards the future.• Interviews to me should be that it ends looking to the future. Maybe they could talk about how they could improve somehow in the future.
Schwarzenegger: It's like been there, done that. It's not about me now. It's about California and America. Because everything that I've done, every dream that I've had has become a reality because of America. And now it's important for me to work hard so that other people can have big dreams and make their dreams become a reality.

3. Thoughtful Questions

Last but certainly not least a great interview has to have thoughtful and interesting questions. you have to leave your reader wowed by the question. The question should not be answered with just yes or no.

Brown: You have said, a couple of times now, that McCain is a rebel within his own party. That he walks his own path. He has not, necessarily, always been in lock-step and, certainly, you are right about that with the die-hard conservatives of the Republican party. But, Sarah Palin, many people will tell you, is. She is very much a part of the conservative movement of the Republican party. What do you think of her as a choice?

I LOVED my first day of internship!!!!!!

On my first day of internship we were driven by Arianah's dad he droped us off and we were greeted by our mentor. What we did first was si and talk about ourselves, our lies, dislikes what we wanted to be and just a little more things about ourselves. Then after that we walked around and took a tour of the place she explianed what we would be doing ,showed us a video that we would be showing us a video that would be watching with the kids. Then when we were done we set up our logins that would tell us our schedule. Aftherwards me, AJ and Arianah just messed around on these big electric scooters. At first i was scared but once I got a hang to it, IT WAS REALLY FUN! She let us prcatice riding them because she said we could use it sometimes if wanted so over all it was a good day. When our day was over me and AJ departed from Arianah and took the bus and trolley and from there I went to a near by Recenter. I really like my internship and I am excited of whats going to come next.

celebrating the past and future

John F. Kennedy our 35th president is well remembered by his famous quote during his inaugural speech " And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." This quote has a great importance of everyday life especially now since we have some "change" in the white house, what this specific part of his speech means to me is that we should not wait for change we should make the change ourselves.

I think JFK's inaugural speech has a lot to do with what our new president Barack Obama, throughout his fight into the white house you heard him say the word change and that s what JFK wanted to do when he was in office in the beginning he said We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom -- symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning -- signifying renewal, as well as change. He wanted to change how the world thought of each other he wanted to abolish segregation because he saw that it was time for a change.

I think Obama is a good speech writer and according to this article "Watching the inauguration with a view to the past" he is compared to a few of some of the most memorable speech writers including JFK. People commented on his speaking ability, one said that it reminded her of the Martin L. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Another women, Susanne Byrnes a filmmaker of Huntington, said she "also thought of the Kennedy years and the challenges another young president now faces". "Kennedy was also breaking boundaries with the civil-rights movement and human rights," she said. So as you can see when Kennedy was in office he influenced a lot of people.

As we are transitioning to the change era something else that needs to change "Environmental Issues Slide in Poll of Public’s Concerns". Now that Obama is in office he has a lot to change, we came a far away from segregation so even though JFK was not in office when this happened he still had an big impact of where Obama is now. One issue that Obama is concerned about is global warming even though according to the polls, "released Thursday by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center, global warming came in last among 20 voter concerns", and “Protecting the environment, which had surged in the rankings from 2006 to 2008, dropped even more precipitously in the poll: only 41 percent of voters called it a top priority, compared with 56 percent last year."

If we don't start making a change on how we think, I think our living space is only going to get worse. Hopefully Barack Obama can live up to his expectations cause their are a lot of people counting on him to the situations we are in now.

Even though I wasn't around when JFK was in office I think he would have been a great president if he had been given a chance to prove it. His mind and heart was in the place and I think that was what previous presidents after him lacked, and I think if we just give Obama a chance to prove himself he to will be a great president.

dreams come true

Dreams Really do Come true

"Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true" - written by E.Y. Harburg preformed by Dorothy wizard of oz

The song somewhere over the rainbow, has a deep and strong connection to Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a dream" speech, he talked about a better future where all is created equal and where dreams came true.In the song "somewhere over the rainbow" I chose "...and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true", this part of the song has a connection with the word "dream".

In Martin Luther King Jr's famous I have a dream speech he was basically saying in the future things will change blacks and whites will be able to eat in the same restaurant we will no longer be integrated but we will all be looked at as equals. Even though it took years after the speech before things started to change his dream still came true.

When Martin Luther King gave his I have a dream speech in August 1963 it was a time when people of all races were separated and put in two categories you were either colored or not. So for him to speak of a better place where we were no longer separated was very surprising to hear and probably unbelievable at that time.

When Dorothy sang this song back in 1939 she was talking about herself being in a better place where dreams come true and that if you have a dream you should go out and get it. I think somewhere over the rainbow can mean whatever you want it to mean, whatever you think is a better place where you are free, no worries everything is perfect, that is your rainbow. I personally think my rainbow is heaven there are no worries there everything is perfect everyone is happy and it’s just a good place to be, and thats what I want interpreted in my art piece.

In my art piece I want people to think about what there “rainbow” is because it’s more than just lyrics to a song it really means something. I drew a picture of Martin Luther King in heaven as an angel he is looking down on earth seeing his dream coming true. There is a city where people of all races are getting along and are no longer separated which is exactly what he wanted it to be.
This whole project really taught me to really think about lyrics to a song, some songs have strong meanings that could help you in everyday life. You would never have thought of to look at Martin Luther King and a song from Wizard of Oz to have a connection in some kind of way until you actually look at the two together.

Obama's inauguration

I personally like this quote from his inaugural "In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned."

This is a very admirable quote it stood out to me. I think what Obama was trying to say was he knows he has big shoes to fill and he knows that its not going to be given to him, that he has to prove himself to be great. How this relates to everyday life is that we can't always expect things to be given to us we have to earn it, just like Obama has to earn respect because not everyone is rooting for him succeed, so he really has to prove himself.

Even scarecrows have a brains

President Bush is known for a lot of things, we blame him for so much and now the time has finally come to give him the boot and say sayonara buddy, hasta la vista baby, don't come back now ya hear, but it seems now he feels the need to preform a good deed before he leaves, WHY?

Why did he wait so long to do a good deed, when he should have did that along time ago? So what good did he decide to do, well according to Washington Post bush has opened up three new marine national monuments in the Pacific Ocean which is up to 195,280 square miles. President Bush matched the records of some of the most open-minded presidents which is really good especially for him. He even protected more ocean than any president in history.

Well even though he decided to do something about the environment now, he still has some sins he has to pay for, salon.com has narrowed it down to bush's seven deadliest environmental sins . To save time I am going to name a few that caught my attention.

Deadly sin number four: Abandoned endangered species

The specie that has been affected by this in a bad way is the polar bear it is sad that global warming is taking an huge affect on them and nothing is being done to help them.
"All the high-profile listings, such as polar bears, have come about after the government has been sued or petitioned by environmental groups and citizens."

I am glad that Bush decided to do something about the environment before he left and I guess its never to late to try and help even though he should done something along time ago, at least its a start.

Deadly sin number six: Not seeing the forest or the trees

"The Bush administration never met a tree that wouldn't look better as a 2x4 in Home Depot, or a wilderness area that wouldn't look better with a road running through it."

I think that saving trees is important in some ways, animals need a home just as much as we do, and if we cut down trees to make roads through forests your cutting down some one's home. At the same time we also need trees to build houses for ourselves and since houses or on foreclosure and people or losing their homes we definitely need them too. That does not mean we should go over board on it and just start cutting down forests and trees not thinking about the wildlife who needs it also.

So back to the initial question why such a change of heart? Well knowing bush he probably didn't want to leave the office with a bad impression, he probably wanted to make sure that when he left, he left the office with something good on his part. I wouldn't blame him either if I was in his situation I would try to do numerous things before I leave, but whatever the reason maybe at least we know Scarecrows really do have a brain.

Internship goals

1. What I hope to get out of this whole experience is i want to be able to take this somewhere far where I will be able to use my skills and experiences for the future jobs I will have. I hope I will improve skills and learn some new ones that I haven't known. I hope I will a good learning experience and learn about different things that I will need to know in the future.

2. I hope I discover new skills that I didn't know I had. I hope to identify a job field that I would actually be interested in, in the future. I hope that what I learn in the work field can also help me in my school work, I hope this will overall to become a stronger worker.

3. My goals this semester is to learn something new that I may actually like. I would also like to learn important work skills that I could use in my jobs. I hope if I do get a field that I'm not really interested in that I would get something out of it and not let it be totally useless.

What goals do you have for yourself for your internship experience?
