revising still

During the progressive era a lot of new laws were passed such as the Child labor Law, the 19th admendment, and the abolishment of slavery.

How progressive was the Progressive Era in American history?
Things to consider (choose some, not all!):
* Constitutional Amendments?
* Workers & Working Conditions?
* Imperialism?
* Civil Liberties?
* Conservation?
* Democracy?
* Freedom?
Make sure that you take a stand and establish a judgement, comparison in relation to a specific standard.

Good job people

One blog that stood out to me as good was Amanda Alipio one of her blogs that was good was the economic advice to Obama. One of her advices to Obama was to
"instead of providing money to these big companies for their bailout that we should invest it in progressing with new alternative energy sources. In an article I found by Frank Rich it states the following about bail outs for banks"....
I think this was good advice for him to think about because we do need to focus more on our earth. Since Global Warming is happening we should focus more on helping the environment.

Another blog that was good blog that I saw was Stephanie Santiago, her honors literary devices was good example. One of her literary devices was foreshadowing.
Another literary term that I found was foreshadowing. Fitzgerald uses foreshadowing in the book for when Tom finds out about Gatsby and Daisy’s affair together. The day that he found out was described as “The next day was broiling, almost the last, certainly the warmest, of the summer”(page114). I thought that it was interesting because this was the day that Tom confronted Gatsby about his affair with Daisy and they got into a heated debate.
The reason why this stood out to me was because I really didn't understand what it meant and by reading it I now do.

Ariannah's blog about the election of 1896 was a good blog. She had a lot of important dates, she talked about the election deeply and quick to the point, it was not to long.

What blogs are out there with outstanding examples of:

1. Economic advice to Barack Obama?
2. Literary Analysis?
3. Historical Writing?
4. Anything else that makes blogs great?

Quote examples for each and explain why you picked them! Show us and tell us what makes them great!

my honors blog:the color of water

When I started to read this book in 8th grade grade I didn't finish it. I thought it was to long and I really didn't understand. You should never put a book down without finishing it, so I decided to finish it. Now since I am in a older grade I was able to comprehend and enjoy the story. The Color of Water is a memorable story of a the life of James McBride a half white half black boy trying to find out his roots. His mother is a white Jew who fell in love with a black man which her family disowned her from straying away from her Jewish faith. As he talks about himself and his brothers and sisters life, he also talks about his mother and her past.

Some literary devices in this book would be the fact that the story goes back and forth to past and present. In this story the author tells the story of his mothers past and also of his life. He goes back and forth in the stories, although it does get confusing you are able to tell when he is about to talk about his mother because its in italicized so its easy to see transition with his story. I like the fact that he did that because it actually made me want read more of her story seeing that she went through all that so I think that is very useful literary device to use.

Another important literary device in this book would be symbol. Out all of the symbols the one that I saw in the story was "Black Power" or race. This book is mostly about race and self acceptance. As I began to get deeper in the book I saw that in both Ruth's, James mother and his own, they both had trouble with race. Getting to Black Power, when James was young Black power was everywhere especially since the death of Malcolm X. People where putting them on the hood of their cars as I read on page 26. Since Ruth was a white woman living in a time when Blacks and Whites didn't get along it was hard for her and her 12 children. Another incident which happened was a time where he and his mother was on a trolley with food that his sister cooked, when two black men took her purse with the food left on the ground. That shows her strength and her resilience. Although James was always afriad of the black Panthers this triggered something which made him fear them for his mothers life. One more incident that happened was when James went off to a camp as he was looking through the window he saw a boy and his farther doing a handshake he thought was cool, when the boy was asked where he learned the hand shake from he said his taught him it. Fearing that his mother was in trouble since the boys farther was next to her try to warn her, even though she was in no danger he still takes things in his on hands and punches the little boy in the face. I definatley think Black Power is important symbol in this book.

The last literary device that I saw in the book was characterization/character. In this book there were alot of characters some characters that I thought that was important, that without them they wouldn't be a story would be James Mcbride, Ruth Mcbride, (tateh) Fishel Shilsky, and Peter. They were the ones that stuck out to me as important to me. I think Tateh and Peter are important characters in the story because In Ruth's life Tateh her farther sexually abused her when she was younger which led away from her family. Peter would be an important character in the story because it was ruth's first boyfriend and farther to her first child which she ended up not having, this caused much controversey because he was also black.

obama's economic advisor/internship

I was given the opportunity to talk to president Obama about our current state of economy. We are at a devastating time, like the current crisis we are having with people are losing their homes because the current rate unemployment went up . In 1929-1939 we went through a time period in which we addressed as the Great Depression, if we do not want to go back to that we should use some alternative methods. Once I stepped foot into the White House I explored the area, I shook hands with his wife Michelle, and his two daughters Sasha, and Malia. The Secret Service escorted me to Obama's office for a one on one sessions, he gave me his autograph and then I started addressing the issue's that we are in. The national unemployment rate jumped from 4.7 percent to 5 percent in December, and according to government statistics, the number of jobs in the U.S.

During the Great depression, By spring of 1933, when FDR took the oath of office, unemployment had risen from 8 to 15 million (roughly 1/3 of the non-farmer workforce) and the gross national product had decreased from $103.8 billion to $55.7 billion.

I think if we do not want to repeat history we should focus on trying to help people find jobs so they could get their homes back. That means we should make more jobs available for people to get.
I think another good plan that Obama has is the stimulus plan, this plan makes it easier to secure or refinance mortgages for more expensive homes. This will also allow Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a year to buy loans of up to $729,750 which the limit now is $417,000, this would it easier for borrowers to qualify.1

I think this is a good idea because it gives people a chance to get out of the current troubles they are in. As the timer went off I thanked him for taking the time to listen and shook his hand.

what makes a good article

1. Preview: In the beginning of the Arnold interview they give a little preview of what's in the interview and I think that this is good because it lets the reader preview what their reading and if they want to continue reading it. We could include this in the final product by putting it in the beginning before the actual interview.Story Highlights• Schwarzenegger says he'll campaign in Ohio for Sen. John McCain• He says Gov. Sarah Palin will be ready to lead when she takes oath• He says he's willing to work with a President Obama or President McCain

2. Looking towards the future.• Interviews to me should be that it ends looking to the future. Maybe they could talk about how they could improve somehow in the future.
Schwarzenegger: It's like been there, done that. It's not about me now. It's about California and America. Because everything that I've done, every dream that I've had has become a reality because of America. And now it's important for me to work hard so that other people can have big dreams and make their dreams become a reality.

3. Thoughtful Questions

Last but certainly not least a great interview has to have thoughtful and interesting questions. you have to leave your reader wowed by the question. The question should not be answered with just yes or no.

Brown: You have said, a couple of times now, that McCain is a rebel within his own party. That he walks his own path. He has not, necessarily, always been in lock-step and, certainly, you are right about that with the die-hard conservatives of the Republican party. But, Sarah Palin, many people will tell you, is. She is very much a part of the conservative movement of the Republican party. What do you think of her as a choice?
